ABOUT BOSTONBoston, Massachusetts is a city rich in American History. Boston has the oldest subway system in the country, which runs north from downtown on a ten minute ride to busy Logan Airport, and continues north to Revere Beach, a beautiful cove populated by many senior citizens.
At Boston Common you are greeted by guides wearing colonial attire, who will take you on a walking tour of the Freedom Trail. Enjoy a self-guided walking tour along the Esplanade, a long strip of parkland along the Charles River heading west into the Back Bay area, with benches and picnic tables along the way. On one side of the Charles river is the Boston Boating Center with many sailboats for members, while on the north side is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus with it's own sailing center, so the river is often filled with little sailboats every weekend. Nearby is the Science Museum and departure point for tours on the Duck Boat, an amphibian former military vehicle that runs along the Charles River into the Back Bay.
Along Massachusetts Avenue are many shops and ethnic restaurants plus the Christian Science Center, a gigantic temple surrounded by pools with concrete benches alongside, a peaceful place to rest, read, and watch the world go by.
Boston Harbor is a favorite place for locals and visitors alike, with many shops, seafood restaurants, and site of the Boston Aquarium. On Boston Harbor are the busy ferry docks with frequent departures to Cape Cod, Salem, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard. There is also a small complementary ferry that travels across the harbor to the USS Constitution, better known as Old Ironsides. A tour of the majestic USS constitution and the Naval history museum alongside is free and open every day. |
